Well it’s mid-October of 2022 and adobe has done what they do just about every year and that is releasing new updates for their big applications photoshop and lightroom are no exception.
And it’s time to share with you What’s new in Photoshop 2023 & how to download adobe photoshop 2023.
As we start here we are going to take a look at the new features inside of photoshop which is 2023 now that said if you use any of the portrait stuff that you are about to read here.
I did a longer video (7 Hours) inside Photoshop that dives deep into that portrait-related features since adobe camera and lightroom are pretty much the same.
I have put that link, if you want to find out what’s new and really dive a little bit deeper into that portrait stuff in the meantime let’s go ahead and get started reading. And jump into What’s new in Photoshop 2023.
Adobe photoshop 2023 system requirements
- Processor: AMD or Multicore Intel with 64-bit support
- Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit onwards – Version 1909 or later
- RAM: Minimum of 8GB is Required and the Recommendation is 16GB or more
- Graphics Card: Minimum, GPU with DirectX 12 support and 1.5 GB of GPU memory
- Monitor resolution Required: Minimum 1280 x800 display @ 100% and recommendation is 1920 x1080 display or higher @ 100%
- Hardisk Space required: minimum of 4GB of hard-disk space should be available and additional space is also required for installation purposes. The recommendation is 16 GB of disk space and additional space for installation.
- Allergy requires the OpenGL 2.0 Collaborative System.
What’s new in Photoshop 2023
Object Selection Tool
The first thing is going to be with the object selection tool, So if you head to your toolbar it’s about the fourth one down or so it’s going to be a little square object. W is the keyboard shortcut so you can go to your object selection tool.
A couple of things to remember it will automatically find objects. If you have that little check box turned on the other thing is you do have mode between the rectangular and lasso tool.
But the main thing about the object selection tool is number one. It’s supposed to work better. I have tried it out on a few different things and it definitely does.
You get a more refined selection so you will see when hovering over the bird in this case and find that as the object so all.
I have to do it at this point. You don’t even have to lasso or draw around it. Just you need to click on the object and it will automatically make a selection there.
Object Selection Tool – Fill and Delete
So after that’s the first thing, the thing about the way that object selection tool works is there’s a new feature called, fill and delete.
So if you have the selection, let’s go ahead and click on it if you have the selection and you right-click in the middle you can delete and fill in the selection.
Which is essentially doing content-aware in a way you can see we have content-aware fill.
There so, I would say try both of them. I usually find the new delete and fill selection works a little bit better but again sometimes content-aware works better and if neither one of these works remember these are mostly automatic.
Except content aware fill will bring into a window that lets you control what you are going to use as an area to fill and this is not a new feature that has been around for years.
So if you look it up you will find some more information on it. But that’s mainly the difference between the two, is delete and fill are automatic.
You don’t really get any options for it and then content-aware fill will pull you into that window.
Another thing that you can do, is if you go in and drag around an object and it finds the edges with the object selection tool.
So now you can use the object selection tool to select an object which it’s done before and it’s doing even better now.
But you can also just press Shift + Delete and that will delete and fill that selection with some of the areas from around it.
Neural Filter – Photo restoration
We have a neural filter that everybody’s talking about. It has to do with photo restoration and it has nothing to do with new features.
However, when I was looking for photos to check out the new feature I realized I had scanned a lot of old photos at some point.
I think a lot of people do this and if you have multiple photos on a page there’s an old old feature. I mean probably more than a decade old.
But it’s really cool, go up to the file menu and go down to the automate and then choose crop and straighten photos.
Photoshop automatically goes through and crops and straighten all those photos and puts them into separate documents.
So automatically go in there and do that for you, a pretty cool feature but let’s go to one that needs a little bit of work head up here to the filter menu, go down to neural filters and you have to scroll down to photo restoration.
You have to just turn that on, you might have to download it and you will see it does some enhancement. You can enhance faces there’s some other adjustment you can do inside there.
And then scratch reduction, to be honest, the filter is not fast so keep that in mind. You need a pretty quick computer with good configuration to use filters faster.
Camera Raw – Automatically find the people in your photos
What’s new inside of camera raw that really gonna be the biggest update so this point, if you open a raw photo in photoshop but automatically goes to the camera if you already have a photo open.
you can always go down to the filter menu and go down to the camera filter and it will open that window up for you the masking changes are probably going to be the biggest so if you will click on the masking icon.
That’s not new panels, not new, they’re new and arranged a little bit, there are some icons up there at the top. We will talk about background and object selection next but let’s go down here to people so well now this is the big feature.
if you are a photographer it will now automatically find the people in your photos. When you see it, you can go ahead and click on that person, and then you can click on the features that you want to select.
So for example I will go with the whites of the eyes and maybe the iris and pupil at the bottom make sure you click create separate masks if you want to be separated.
So you can edit them separately if not they are going to be all one mask and they would get edited together.
And at this point, this is the only new feature and I say that because remember when we are creating a mask we are creating a selection and we are telling it what shape we want that selection in now we are telling it we want it to be in the shape of the eyes and the iris and pupil.
okay, the only thing that’s changed is when creating a mask we are giving it a shape we had you know sky background whatever shapes those were.
so here we have a portrait shape so we hit create once you are in this panel nothing is new. There is some old masking panel that you have been using all along.
