How to use a system restore point on windows 10 and set a restore point. There are 3 ways to restore your Windows 10 PC back to an earlier time and date when your computer was working without any problems.

3. Now decide how much disk space you are going to give to the system restore by moving the slider. I would recommend at least 5GB of disk space.

If you don’t have much drive space available then just give it whatever you can afford. Once you are done click on apply then ok.

4. Now to create a restore point click on create. Give your restore point name whatever you like, then click on create.

Usually, it will take less than a minute for windows to create a restore point.

But it may vary for all computers. Once the process is done just click on close and then ok. Now successfully you have created a restore point.

Create a restore point about once per week

It’s a good idea to create a restore point about once a week, but you can create a restore point whenever you want.

Windows will also automatically create one restore point for you at one time but it’s best to create your own as well.

So that you have more options of restore points in case you need them.

Please note, any restore point that is older than 90 days will be deleted automatically by windows.

1. If You Can start windows

So firstly, let’s look at how to use system restore if you can access windows desktop to get your restore points.

Click in the search box and type Recovery then click on it.

If show more restore point option appears and it is unmarked then mark it. So that you can see the list of restore points.

In the list, you will see each one of these has a time and date that they were created with short descriptions as well.

The type is also you can see manual which means it is created by you. And if the type is showing windows updated it means it is automatically created by windows.

So choose the restore point that you want to use. If you want you can click on scan for affected programs to see if any programs have been affected by using the restore point you have just chosen.

If None-Detected then close the window. Now if you are happy to continue then click on the next.

Before clicking on Finish please read “If you have changed your windows password recently, we recommend that you create a password reset disk

In other words, if you roll your computer back to a time when you had a different windows password your existing password may no longer work.

So if you have changed your windows password recently then it is strongly advised to create a reset password disk before moving to the next part.

This just reminds you to save any of your unsaved work. Then close all other windows and when you are ready click on finish.

Then finally clicking on Yes windows will automatically turn your computer back to the time and date of the restore point that you had selected.

It will restart your computer and it will take about 10 minutes to restore your computer.

Or some computers may take more than 10 minutes so don’t interrupt and give some time to restore your computer.

Once your computer has finished implementing the restore point it will have a message System restore completed successfully.

Now I will explain to you how to use a restore point if you can’t even boot into windows. If windows have tried to start up unsuccessfully three times in a row.

Please note, This will not accept a windows pin number. It will only accept the windows password (Microsoft account password).

7. Then the System Restore window will open, click on next

8. Select show more restore points so that all the restore events will start to show.

Now choose a restore point, if you want to you can click on scan for affected programs to see

whether any programs have been affected by using the restore point which you have just chosen.

9. Once you have chosen the restore point, now click on Next

10. You will see the below window of confirm disk to restore, then again click on Next, and after that click on Finish

Now it can take windows quite a while to restore your computer as how it was before, so give it a fair bit of time to complete the process.

Once the restoration has been finished windows automatically start up and hopefully you will be back in good working order as it was before.

3. How to use a system restore point If you can’t start windows (Method 2)

I will explain to you another way of using system restore if your computer won’t even boot into windows. This is similar to the method – 2 but from a different starting point.

So if you can get to your login screen then to use your system restore then click on the power button then press and hold the shift key on the keyboard and click on the restart
